The health and wellness of seniors are important issues for our aging society. Keeping our seniors healthy means more people will live active, productive lives for many years to come. Eating right and getting plenty of exercise are a big part of the picture. That's why SWMOA and our senior centers focus attention on nutritious meals, exercise programs, health screenings, and foot clinics.
| Foot Care Clinics Many of our centers are offering foot care clinics for their seniors. This service is offered through one of our contract providers and generally has a nominal fee. They provide toenail clipping for non-diabetic older adults who are unable to cut their own toenails and many include foot soaks and massages. |

Blood Pressure Screenings High blood pressure doesn't usually have any physical symptoms. But if left unchecked, high blood pressure can have serious effects on the health and wellness of seniors, as well as younger adults. It can lead to heart attacks, strokes, and circulation problems. Adults should be checked for high blood pressure at least once every two years, more often if they have certain risk factors. |

Exercise Programs In an effort to help seniors remain active and physically fit our centers are offering a variety of fitness classes to meet all levels of agility. Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, strength exercise, dancing, and low-impact aerobics are a sampling of the programs offered. Many of our centers also feature in-house exercise equipment including exercise bikes and treadmills as well as pool tables and Wii bowling. |
